Adjusting Dialer for Ten Digit Dialing

(Detailed instructions for Windows 95/98/Me)

Windows Me Users Please Note: Click on the Start button, go to Settings and then click on Dial-up Networking. You can then skip the
steps 1 through 4 and start on Step 5

1. Double click on the My Computer Icon.

2. Double click on the Dial-Up Networking folder.

3. From the Dial-Up Networking window click on Connections and select Settings.

4. On the General tab make sure the "Prompt for information before dialing" is checked. Then click OK.

5. Right mouse click on top of the dialer icon you wish to change and then click on Properties. (don't worry if you have more then one dialer to change you will just click on the link at the bottom of this page to repeat steps 5-9 when finished with changing this first dialer.)

ME users please note: If your are not asked for username and password when connecting you will need to click on the Security tab and uncheck the box next to Connect automatically and then return to the General tab.

6. Make sure the box next to "Use area code and Dialing Properties" is checked also make sure the Area code is in the "Area code:" field. Then click OK.

7. Double click on that same dialer icon.

8. Click on the Dial Properties button.

9. Click on the "Area Code Rules..." button.

10. Check the box next to "Always dial the area code (10-digit dialing) Click Apply button and then click the OK button at the bottom of any remaining open windows. Now you may connect to the Internet or press the Cancel button on the Connect To window.

If you have another dialer profile. (multiple access numbers) Click here to return to Step 5 to correct those other dialer profiles.
